Abstract
In October of 1988, the Michigan Department of Civil Rights issued a report that made suggestions that all schools using Native American names and mascots change them. The report stated that the use of Native American names and mascots for athletic teams promoted racial stereotypes. Abstract
The Jack Weiss collection contains one letterman blanket that belonged to Weiss while he attended Michigan State Normal College. Weiss lettered in both football and track and field. He was number 64 on the football team and play for four years. Weiss competed in the weights division of track and field for three years. He graduated from MSNC in 1950.

James J. Balten, Sr. born September 13, 1915 and graduated from Akron New York High School. During his time at the Normal College he was a member of the Phi Delta Pi fraternity and the Physical Education Club, held the position of lineman on the football team where he lettered in the fall of 1936, '37 and '38 and threw shotput for the Track and Field team (1938, '39).
